Candle Care & Notes
Candle Care & Notes
At Charlestown Candle Co., every candle is hand-poured in small batches with care, craft, and a touch of rebellion. To keep your flame burning bright (and safe), here are a few notes from us to you:
Before You Burn
Trim your wick to ¼ inch before each light. A clean cut means a cleaner burn.
First burn matters — let the wax melt to the edges of the jar on the first use (about 3–4 hours). It sets the memory of the candle and prevents tunneling.
While Burning
Keep it clear — never burn near drafts, curtains, or anything that could catch.
Burn smart — 3–4 hours at a time is plenty. Longer burns can overheat the jar.
Stay close — never leave a candle unattended, and keep out of reach of children and pets.
After the Flame
Snuff, don’t huff and puff — use a snuffer, dipper, or lid to extinguish instead of blowing it out. It keeps the smoke down and the scent clean.
Repurpose with purpose — when ¼ inch of wax remains, it’s time to retire your candle. Clean the jar and give it a second life (we like them as whiskey glasses, catchalls, or planters).
A Note on Variations
Our candles are small-batch and hand-poured. That means slight variations in color, texture, or scent throw are normal — and part of what makes them unique. No two batches are ever exactly alike.
